HELLENiQ ENERGY announces plans to invest over €1 billion in Romania over the next four years

Romania becomes a strategic market for the Group’s renewable energy growth in Southeast Europe • Approximately 850 MW of solar and wind projects in operation, construction and development across Romania • At least 500 MW / 1,500 MWh of planned battery storage capacity to support grid flexibility and energy resilience

Bucharest, November 9, 2026 – HELLENiQ ENERGY, one of Southeast Europe’s leading integrated energy groups, has announced plans to invest more than €1 billion in Romania over the next four years, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country and its ambition to become a major player in the Romanian renewable energy market.

Through its subsidiary, HELLENiQ Renewables Romania, the Group is developing a diversified portfolio of solar, wind and energy storage projects, combining significant investment capacity, technical expertise and an established regional presence.

Romania represents a strategic market for HELLENiQ ENERGY’s international growth, and one of the most important pillars of its renewable energy expansion. The planned investments are expected to support the development of Romania’s energy infrastructure, contribute to greater energy security and system flexibility, and create long-term value for the national economy, local communities and business partners.

The investment plans were presented at the official launch of HELLENiQ Renewables Romania in Bucharest, bringing together representatives of Romanian authorities, energy industry stakeholders, business partners and the wider institutional and business community.

Andreas Shiamishis, CEO of HELLENiQ ENERGY, stated:

“Romania is a strategic market for HELLENiQ ENERGY and a key part of our long-term growth plans in Southeast Europe. Our commitment to invest more than €1 billion over the next four years reflects our confidence in the country’s potential and our ambition to establish a strong, lasting presence in its energy sector. As one of the region’s leading integrated energy groups, we bring the investment capacity, expertise and experience needed to develop high-quality energy infrastructure. We are already translating our plans into operational projects and new investments, with a clear objective: to contribute to Romania’s energy security and energy transition while creating lasting value for the economy, our partners and the communities in which we operate.”

Building a strong renewable energy presence in Romania

HELLENiQ Renewables Romania currently manages a portfolio of approximately 850 MW of renewable energy projects at various stages of operation, construction and development, establishing a solid foundation for its long-term growth in the country.

The company already operates four photovoltaic parks with a combined installed capacity of 211 MW, located in Teleorman, Giurgiu, Olt and Dolj counties.

Its investment program also includes a 96 MW wind farm in Galați County, currently under construction and scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027. Once operational, the project is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 89,000 households.

Further expansion is planned through a 186 MW hybrid wind project in Vaslui County, acquired at the ready-to-build stage. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027, with operations expected to commence in the second quarter of 2029.

In addition, the company is pursuing the acquisition of approximately 325 MW of further renewable energy and storage projects, including hybrid photovoltaic, wind and standalone battery storage facilities. The proposed acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, subject to the relevant conditions and approvals.

Together, these projects demonstrate HELLENiQ ENERGY’s commitment to developing a substantial, technologically diversified renewable energy portfolio in Romania, combining assets already in operation with a strong pipeline of future investments.

Investing in energy storage and a more resilient energy system

Energy storage is a central component of HELLENiQ Renewables Romania’s development strategy, reflecting the growing importance of flexibility and reliability as renewable energy capacity expands.

The company is planning battery storage installations with a total power capacity of at least 500 MW and an energy storage capacity of 1,500 MWh, with potential for further expansion.

By combining solar and wind generation with battery storage solutions, HELLENiQ Renewables Romania aims to support the more effective integration of renewable energy into the national grid, improve system flexibility and contribute to a more resilient and efficient electricity market.

Romania at the heart of HELLENiQ ENERGY’s regional growth strategy

HELLENiQ ENERGY has been steadily transforming and expanding its business across the energy value chain, with renewable energy and power generation playing an increasingly important role in its long-term strategy.

Under its Vision 2030 strategic direction, the Group is targeting more than 1.5 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2028 and over 2 GW by 2030, supported by a balanced mix of solar, wind and energy storage technologies.

With an overall renewable energy development pipeline exceeding 6 GW across Southeast Europe, the Group is building on its established operations, investment capabilities and regional expertise to expand its clean energy business.

Romania is expected to make a significant contribution to these ambitions, representing the Group’s 2nd largest renewable energy market outside Greece.

Sotiris Kapellos, CEO of HELLENiQ Renewables, stated:

“Romania has a central role in our renewable energy growth strategy. With a portfolio of approximately 850 MW already secured, we have established a strong platform for further expansion. Our strategy combines solar and wind generation with energy storage, enabling us to develop a balanced portfolio that responds to the needs of modern electricity markets. We aim to progressively bring our existing Romanian portfolio into operation by 2030, while continuing to evaluate additional investment opportunities and partnerships.”

Mihai Darie, Director of HELLENiQ Renewables Romania, commented:

“We are already operating solar assets, advancing wind developments and integrating energy storage into our portfolio. Our planned battery storage capacity of at least 500 MW and 1,500 MWh is an important part of this approach. We see significant opportunities to support the Romanian energy market, while developing long-term relationships with local authorities, communities and business partners.”
